Community Impact Grant Opportunities
Guidelines 

United Way of Odessa partners with nonprofit agencies delivering programs within designated service areas that align with our mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community to advance the common good.

Requirement: 501(c)3, non-profit organizations that serve the United Way of Odessa geographic service area who provide services within one or more of the key focus areas:

  • Healthy Community

  • Youth Opportunity

  • Financial Stability

  • Community Resiliency

Our focus is the ALICE population—individuals and families who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained and Employed. These community members work hard yet often struggle to make ends meet, living paycheck to paycheck and frequently just one unexpected expense away from financial crisis. This focus also includes individuals and families living at or below the federal poverty line.

Application Period: Opens annually during March

Reporting Requirements: Accountability and transparency are central to our partnerships. To be eligible for membership as a United Way Community Partner / Member Agency, organizations must meet the following requirements:

Accountability and transparency are central to United Way of Odessa partnerships. To be eligible for membership as a Community Partner or Member Agency, organizations must meet the following requirements:

501(c)(3) Status

  • Must maintain a current and valid IRS determination letter confirming 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.

Mission Statement Alignment

  • Must have a written mission and general goals.
  • Mission must focus on human services.
  • Services must align with the United Way of Odessa geographic service area.

Local Governance

  • Must maintain a localized Board of Directors.
  • Board should demonstrate community representation and oversight.

Governance & Compliance

  • Must maintain constitution or bylaws that clearly define:
    • Organizational objectives
    • Responsibilities and authority
    • Duties of the governing body

Financial Transparency

  • Must provide:
    • Annual IRS Form 990
    • Accompanying annual independent audit 

Community Need

  • Programs must deliver human services that address a documented community need.
  • Services must demonstrate relevance to ALICE and/or poverty-affected populations where applicable.

Operational History

  • Agency must have been in continuous operation for at least two (2) years at the time of application.

These requirements ensure that all funded partners demonstrate accountability, sustainability, and alignment with United Way of Odessa’s mission to improve lives through community-driven impact.
